I watched a TED presentation by John Hardy about the environmentally-conscious school that he founded. I thought his presentation was quite effective because it made me want to hear more about The Green School. As its founder, Hardy is an expert on The Green School. He had obviously considered that his audience had probably never heard of The Green School, so he gave a basic overview of the school’s beginning and purpose. It was evident that Hardy had prepared his presentation and had given careful thought as to how he was going to tie the information together. He talked about how the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” inspired him to start the school, and he concluded his talk by mentioning this again at the end. Hardy’s visual aids were very well done. When he spoke about the documentary, he showed a picture of it. As he mentioned various aspects of the school, he used photographs that let the audience obtain a “feel” for the school. At the end, he provided the web address for The Green School so that the audience could find out more information about it. His presentation was professional and educated the audience about The Green School and its initiatives.
One suggestion I would have for Hardy is to avoid moving
around on stage. He was wearing a skirt (which I am assuming is an authentic
Balinese outfit although that was never mentioned) and kept stepping back and
forth. This made his skirt move which I found kind of distracting since I am
not accustomed to men wearing skirts. Other than that, I thought his
presentation was quite engaging, and I was so intrigued by what he had shared
that I immediately visited the website for The Green School upon finishing the
video.
