Comics
I enjoyed creating my own comic. Although it was a time-consuming experience, now that I know more about Pixton, I feel like it would go much quicker next time. Since I teach kindergarten, I feel like my use of comics would be very limited. My students are just learning to read, so I would either have to read the comic aloud or else include only a few words in each scene. Although I feel like I could come up with some creative ideas using a limited amount of words if given enough time, I choose to create a funny comic aimed at teachers or people who think that teaching is an easy job.
I think that Pixton has a lot of potential for use in schools through the use of both teacher-created and student-created comics. Teachers could use Pixton comics to introduce a new concept or motivate reluctant learners. Students in high ability or enrichment programs would especially love to create comics centered around a topic in the curriculum. They could then share it with the class. Another option would be to have students work with a partner to create a comic at the end of a unit to show what they've learned. The two main challenges of using Pixton in the school setting would be the amount of time that is required to create comics and the fact that Pixton is not free for use in schools. Overall, I think it is a very fun and inviting program!

Carolyn~ I LOVE That your comic is FUNNY! I took a more serious and educational approach, but loved reading your comic! This is how many people think about teaching (especially kindergarten)! Great Work
ReplyDeleteThis comic is awesome and so true. I don't teach kindergarten but I've been there with my three kids. Teaching is one of the most difficult things you can do in life because every student is different and you have to cater to their every whim at that level. I'm very impressed.
ReplyDeleteI totally love your comic strip. Great job incorporating all of the student's actions. I loved that part because it was like, easy? - yeah in your face check this out and then you had all the kids questioning, complaining, wanting your attention every second. Good job explaining the true life of a Kindergarten teacher.
ReplyDeleteI really like your Comic. It is very true! I also agree with you that it would be difficult to use Pixton in school because it isn't free and getting the school to buy something like this is not necessarily the easiest thing to do. Thank you so much for sharing!
